Our Story
Why Did You Start Ichthus VerseWear?
There is a mountain of Christian t-shirts out there. I've seen them around for as long as I remember. You probably own one or two. There's nothing wrong with those. Wear them all you like.
The truth is, I got this idea a long time ago in a painfully small condo on the island of Key West during one of the lowest times in my life. At first, I didn't recognize what I was being given to do. I wasn't expecting God to bless me with much during that time, either. Suffice it to say; I thought I'd done quite enough to ruin my life and God wouldn't be looking to hand out any blessings to me.
I even tried to give this idea away. I tried to convince someone else to do it, but it fell on deaf ears, and I felt terrible that it wasn't being done. The idea never left me. I kept thinking about it and thinking about it and thinking about it.
Ichthus VerseWear Gets A Personality
I went back home to Boston a year later with my idea still perfectly intact. I even talked about it with a few close Believer-friends and asked them what they thought. They liked it! Sadly, I am not a designer, and I don't know how to use any designing software either...but my friend Cameron does. I thought I'd ask him to help me. I tried eagerly to see if I could get an audience with him, but like any great designer, he was too busy. Disappointed, I decided to find another one, and no one was interested. In frustration, I called out to God and said, "If you want Cameron to be part of this, you are going to have to get me on his calendar!" So Cameron and I had lunch the following week to discuss Christian t-shirts. Well, he didn't know that part yet. I just said I had an idea. The truth is, I never talked to Cameron about God. I had no idea where he was at with that.
I rolled out my idea to my long-time friend over salads. He listened intently, but he had the strangest look on his face. It seemed to be a mix of disbelief, maybe a little discomfort, and I wasn't sure about the rest. I thought maybe Christian t-shirts wasn't his thing. I thought to myself that I would pay for lunch, apologize for taking his time, and figure out what to do next. My pause hung heavy in the air as I mustered up the courage to say, "So, what do you think?"
What came next I couldn't believe. He said, "I had a shirt; it was just a hand with a hole through it. It was by One Truth. I loved that shirt, and I always wanted to do something like it, but I just didn't know how." I don't think anyone of us could have seen that coming and the rest, as they say, is history. I had the concepts, Cameron would create the company's personality and anything tangible or visible.
We Make Christian T-Shirts That Cause Evangelism
The most significant difference between Ichthus VerseWear and other Christian t-shirts is the design. We are not just promoting Jesus. We are causing conversation. That means, the designs need to be a little less obvious than a cross, a fish, or anything else that non-believers readily recognize is worn by "those Christians."
Also, writing out a verse on any shirt negates discussion. Passersby read it, decide what they think about it, and move on. This happens without any conversation from you. By merely using the Bible reference, and placing it on the back instead of under the design, you now have two opportunities for questions. The back requires someone to say, "What does that mean?" and the front design begs someone to say, "What is that about?"
Why do we think it's better? Because it actually works! Just ask anyone who's worn one. The wearer must be willing to do three things:
1) Memorize their shirt's Bible verse
2) Be ready to be approached by strangers
3) Like impromptu conversation about God
Ichthus VerseWear Is More Than Christian Apparel
We'll let you in on a little secret; if you want to know. We're not just selling Christian t-shirts. I mean, you can just buy one and move on if you want to. No harm, no foul. We have something more in mind if you are game. We're creating a group of Believers who want be part of a movement to spread the Word of God just by doing what they do every day; move around in the outside world around them.
Our fully functioning site will be out soon. This will allow us to gather you into a community of likeminded Christians to teach, equip, and encourage you in your evangelistic journey. Want to come along?
My Best To You In Him,
